Executive Team - MultiChoice Group
Calvo is the Group CEO. He was the chief executive officer of MCSA after holding office as the head of Stakeholder and Regulatory Affairs and executive in the Chairman's office. He previously held positions as an engineer at Sentech and a Broadcasting Spectrum Manager at ICASA.
He has also served in a number of Ministerial Advisory Task Teams, including the Digital Migration Working Group, Digital Dzonga and the ICT Policy Review Panel. He holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of KwaZulu Natal.
Clarissa started with the Group in 1998, joining M-Net as the then head of regulatory affairs. Thereafter she moved to MultiChoice before taking up her current position as Group Executive for Policy and Regulatory Affairs at MIH. Clarissa is an admitted attorney who served her articles at Cheadle, Thompson and Haysom. She graduated from UCT with a BA LLB and followed that with a Masters in Law from the University of Georgetown in Washing DC. She has also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics for Competition Law at Kings College in London.
Tim is the CFO. He was previously the chief executive officer of MultiChoice Africa Limited and chief financial officer of the Naspers Video Entertainment Segment.
He previously held positions as the chief financial officer of Altron Group, chief financial officer of Nampak Limited and chief financial officer of Transaction Capital Limited. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Higher Diploma in Accounting from Rhodes University and is a chartered accountant (South Africa).
Yolisa is the chief executive officer for Connected Video and General Entertainment for the MultiChoice Group.
She has held several senior roles within MultiChoice South Africa is now the driving force behind the Group’s content strategy to be the world’s leading and most-loved African storyteller. This means delivering the best international and local content to the organisation’s more than 19.5 million customers across 50 African countries, with a strong focus on innovation and industry development.
Yolisa is a member of the MultiChoice Group executive team and serves as an independent non-executive director of the Phuthuma Nathi board. Phuthuma Nathi is one of the country’s most successful Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) schemes which owns a 25% stake in the South African operations of the MultiChoice Group. She also holds an MBA from GIBS Business School.
Zunaid is currently the Group Executive for new business development and his responsibilities includes accountability for new business initiatives, creating new channels and opportunities for scaling existing services as well as strategic partnerships for the group. He joined Multichoice in August 2020 from Vodacom Group where he spent the last 10 years in numerous executive positions, the last being the Group Digital and Fixed Services Officer. He has also had previous stints at Cell C and Nashua Mobile
Zunaid has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Witwatersrand and is also a graduate of Vodafone’s Inspire Leadership Programme
Fahmeeda holds a variety of qualifications in Media Management, Strategic Marketing, Strategic Planning, Business Management, and Journalism. Cassim-Surtee began her career as a sports journalist and has worked for City Press and SABC Radio.
She joined the MultiChoice Group in 1998 and has since held a variety of positions within DStv Media Sales, the advertising and sponsorship arm of the business. Comments about her work, “I love it because I don’t treat it as a job. It’s integrated into my life. It’s different every day. I like the opportunity to influence people and create change. Never one to shy for a challenge, Cassim-Surtee lives by the motto, ‘I can do anything even if it scares me.’
Brand joined MultiChoice Africa in December 2015 as Strategy and New Business Director and in January 2017, he was appointed as CEO. He is a Chartered Accountant who started his career at Vodacom SA. Brand left the corporate world and became a shareholder and CEO of an investment company called the Marc Group which focuses on the commercializing of sports and marketing rights in Africa. He exited the Marc Group and took up a CEO contract with the PSL – South African Premium Soccer League before joining MultiChoice.
Nyiko has held a number of key positions at MultiChoice in the last 14 years, including Group GM of Broadcast Technology Division; Executive in the CEO’s Office and Chief Operating Officer of MultiChoice Africa Holdings (MAH)’s Southern Region. While in the Broadcast Technology Division, Nyiko was responsible for the rollout of GOtv MultiChoice’s digital terrestrial television service in Africa as well as decoder development.
Most recently Nyiko was the Regional Director for MAH Southern Africa, leading the business through its next growth phase in the following markets: Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Nyiko was appointed CEO of MultiChoice SA in December 2020.
Nyiko holds a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from the University of Johannesburg alongside executive leadership programmes from INSEAD and MIT.
Doug Lowther is CEO at Irdeto. He brings extensive experience developing and executing successful business growth strategies in the fields of digital television, wireless networking, IP-based services and software security.
Prior to Irdeto, Mr. Lowther was CEO of International Datacasting (IDC) where he led the restructuring of the business and renewed the company’s business strategy, product portfolio and leadership team. Before IDC, Mr. Lowther was Executive Vice-President at Irdeto.
He started with Irdeto as Vice President of Marketing in 2004 and during the next several years led the creation of a product portfolio that achieved substantial revenue growth. Prior to joining Irdeto, Mr. Lowther was an independent consultant and strategy advisor.
His previous positions include executive roles with Nortel Networks, where he was Vice President and General Manager of Wireless Applications and the Vice President of Strategic Marketing.
Marc Jury is the Chief Executive of SuperSport, a role he has held since December 2020. He was previously Head of Acquisitions and Marketing, a dual role that also encompassed overseeing all of the SuperSport digital platforms.
He has held senior positions at Cricket SA (Head of Commercial and Marketing) and SA Investments Limited (SAIL). Prior to that, Marc was Managing Directorship of IFM Sports Marketing Surveys, Africa and Middle East (now Nielsen Sports); Manager of New Business Development at United Media Entertainment Group in London; and Account Manager at Frontiers Group Africa. In his position as CEO, Marc, who has a passion for motivating others and creating an environment for people to thrive, is geared up to forge the growth of the continent’s largest sport broadcaster by innovating, collaborating and embracing new technology and trends.
Jabavu Heshu is the Group Executive for Corporate Affairs at MultiChoice Group. Heshu also serves as the Vice President of the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was previously Head of Corporate Affairs for British American Tobacco Southern Africa, and was previously the Public Policy Manager at Diageo South Africa. At Pernod Ricard, he served as Public Policy Manager at a sub-Saharan level and was part of the team that launched the industry associations in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Mozambique while also setting in place the marketing codes, draft constitution and an industry CSR score card. Thereafter, he was responsible for public policy at Uber SSA. His remit included lobbying to introduce a regulatory framework for technology platforms in the transport Sector. Between 2007 and 2010, Heshu served in South Africa’s diplomatic corps in several international platforms including the United Nations, the African Union and the Southern African Development Community.
Clement is the Group Executive head: Human Resources since December 2020. He was previously the Group Head of Total Reward and prior to that was Head of Reward for MultiChoice Africa Limited.
He holds a Management Services diploma from Witwatersrand Technicon and completed Executive programmes through the Wits Business School and the Pacific institute.
Barry is the Group Executive of Digital for Multichoice Group. He was previously the Group Executive Head of Digital for MultiChoice Africa and has since taken on the broader group-wide mandate. His focus is to develop and execute the Group’s Digital Strategy and Digital Transformation agenda – spanning Digital Marketing, Enablement and Analytics functions.
He has vast Digital Strategy, Transformation and Growth experience having worked in diverse industries including his previous role as a management consultant at Deloitte and as General Manager of Digital at Telstra in Australia. He holds a Bachelor of International Studies (Hons. International Business) from the University of Sydney
Brandon is the Group General Counsel, a position he has held since November 2016. He joined the Group in 2007, occupying various roles at SuperSport, including acting CEO and COO. Prior to that he practised law as a partner and director of attorneys Solomon and Nicolson (later Solomon Nicolson Rein and Verster). He was extensively involved in sports administration including as president of the Northerns Cricket Union, chairman of the Titans cricket franchise, director of Cricket South Africa and chairman of its legal committee. He holds BLC and LLB degrees and a certificate in Sports Law and is an attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
