About
MultiChoice
Malawi

MultiChoice Malawi was established in 1996 as a locally-owned franchise. The operation provides Malawian customers with a choice of five DStv and five GOtv packages. Local operations are run by a staff of 94 Malawian employees working in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu, supported by a nationwide network of agents, retailers and installers.

Key to these achievements has been the creation of a strong local workforce that works smarter, not harder, to deliver innovation, service excellence and world-class entertainment, to customers across the country. This team has reshaped the MultiChoice business to improve the experience at every touchpoint along the customer journey by placing value at the centre of the experience.

How we create social value

MultiChoice Malawi has grown hand in hand with local communities and today employs 94 employees and footprint spanning across Malawi through retailers, 152 agencies, 58 accredited installers and a Direct Sales Force of more than 80.

Together, this team works to make the best local and global content available through DStv and GOtv, which provides crystal-clear digital satellite TV to a large segment of the population through 3 dedicated transmitter sites.

Growing Malawi’s creative industries

A major focus of the company’s social investment efforts is igniting Malawi’s creative industries through upskilling film and TV professionals. One way the business is doing this is through the introduction of the MultiChoice Expansion Program. A collaborative skills development initiative between MultiChoice, local producers and the public sector – through the MultiChoice Talent Factory skills development expertise.

Moreover, the annual MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Academy which develops the skills of young filmmakers through a year-long learnership programme at the Lusaka-based MTF Academy of Southern Africa has produced skilled alumni.

Chimwemwe Mkwezalamba and Jonathan Kapumba represented the first MTF student intake for Malawi in 2018. Mphatso Makamo and Chisomo Livason who graduated in 2019 and more co-horts to come. Following the successful completion of his learnership, Jonathan also secured a 3-week Bollywood internship and Mphatso participated in a production that was nominated in the MTF category of the 2022 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards, which took place in Lagos, Nigeria. These students and the many other talented young Malawians that will follow their footsteps will help create a pipeline of local content. Malawian viewers were able to enjoy truly Malawian stories during Africa month on DStv’s pop-up channel, AfroCinema and Zambezi Magic, which showcased favourites such as Fatsani: A Tale of Survival and Highbrow.

Enriching Malawian lives

‘Sanka Wekha’ – you choose embodies the customer’s power to choose. Choose from a variety of packages that suit their needs and choose how they manage their DStv and GOtv subscriptions. ‘Sankha Wekha’ highlights MultiChoice’s commitment to put the customer first through offering a world of choice.

Corporate social responsibility initiatives include, refurbishing the intensive care unit at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre and donating more than 7000 personal protective items at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
